About the Journal
The Beacon Journal is a peer-reviewed bi-annual research journal of the Maritime Centre of Excellence (MCE) at Pakistan Navy War College (PNWC), Lahore and is recognised in Y-category by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). It is a forum for independent research, scholarly investigation and analysis, encompassing national, regional and global issues with policy relevance. It primarily focuses on maritime security studies with a multi-disciplinary perspective. The fundamental objective of 'The Beacon Journal' is to publish top-quality, policy-relevant research in an accessible manner.
Scope
The Beacon Journal’s research comprises a range of cross-cutting issues, including geopolitics, national security, military and maritime strategy, warfare, maritime security, military and emerging technologies, Blue Economy and climate change. It also investigates the policies and measures of international organizations and security alliances like UN, European Union, ASEAN, SAARC, NATO, Quad and AUKUS. The journal is unbound to any particular epistemological stance, methodological framework and theoretical paradigm. The Beacon Journal welcomes research work from academicians, policy-makers and scholars from all disciplines.
Aims and Objectives
The Beacon Journal is a scholarly publication that aims to promote policy relevant research on key issues related to international security, maritime security, regional peace and stability and conflict resolution. The research published in the journal covers a wide range of security related topics including traditional issues of war and conflict as well as emerging dimensions of non-traditional security including economy, climate change, humanitarian, and emerging technology related issues. The Beacon Journal encourages multi-disciplinary research that addresses the complex multi-dimensional nature of contemporary security issues.
The Beacon Journal provides a platform for scholarly exchange and discussion, with the ultimate goal of improving understanding and promoting effective policy-making on relevant issues. To achieve its aims, The Beacon Journal accepts research-based articles that are conceptually reasoned and provide new insights into current issues in the aforementioned fields. It invites scholars, academicians, and policy-makers to present their research findings and contribute to existing body of knowledge. To ensure impartiality, the journal maintains a rigorous peer-review process, which includes initial editor screening and anonymous or blind review by external specialists in the subject area, to ensure the quality and relevance of articles published.
Fee and Funding
Publication Fee/ Charges: There are no review or publication charges in The Beacon Journal. The Beacon Journal is completely free for authors and readers to promote the knowledge sharing community.
Source of Funding: The Beacon is supported and funded by Pakistan Navy War College. Responsibility for the content of the Journal and its website lies with the Editor-in-Chief.
Peer Review Policy
All submissions to 'The Beacon Journal' are first reviewed in accordance with journal's policy guidelines and later assessed by the editorial board who decides whether these are suitable for peer review. All research articles and book review(s) published in The Beacon Journal are subject to an anonymous two-tiered double-blind peer review process by external referees and members of The Beacon Journal's Editorial Team. The primary objective of the peer review process entails providing the Editorial Team the expertise they need to make an impartial, evidence-based assessment that complies with journal's editorial norms. Review reports enable authors in making necessary revisions to their paper(s) in order for them to be accepted for publication. The publication in the The Beacon Journal is discretion of the Editorial Team.
